Two Basins of the Great Copper Mineralising Ages + A Lookalike of the Greatest Nickel deposit!
The Frontier differentiates itself by covering two sedimentary basins with ages associated with two of the great copper mineralising events, the Neoproterozoic-ages and Permian-ages. Based on the work of Hitzman, Selley & Bull (2013), these ages are associated with super-giant (top 1%) copper deposits, and the bulk of the known sediment-hosted copper. To add to this, the projects sit atop a subduction zone and a major crustal fault, both of which are positive mineral potential indicators. Greenfields is unaware of any other project in the world that 1. offers the simultaneous exploration exposure to basins of these ages, and 2. has such basins underlain by a subduction zone and major fault.
The copper potential alone makes the Frontier highly attractive to us. What makes it head-and-shoulders above the rest is that it has key criteria for Noril'sk-Talnakh nickel-copper-platnium group metal deposits. These criteria include copper bearing sediments, with evaporites, and a mantle plume in a passive margin. As part of the sediment-hosted copper prerequisite, the Frontier contains evaporites. The Icelandic mantle plume is one of seven on Earth that are known to have deep mantle sources.
In selecting its area to licence, Greenfields consulted with global experts in exploration targeting and undertook an extensive literature analysis which includes publications by the United States Geological Survey ('USGS'), and the Danish Geological Survey. Armed with fresh insights and using the mineral systems approach, Greenfields was able to license what is considers to be the most prospective areas in central eastern Greenland. This process and selection must have impressed, as very shortly after being granted its licences, others moved to license the areas that Greenfields deliberately left behind. Imitation is the greatest compliment, right?
Wegener Halvø - 2,155km2
In Danish, Halvø means 'peninsula'. In this case, the peninsula is named after Alfred Wegener, who famously proposed the theory of continental drift (he was Greenland's meteorologist). As an adventurer and a thinker, Alfred Wegener created a paradigm shift in geological understanding despite stiff resistance from the accepted intellectual elite - so much so that it took about 50 years to be accepted in mainstream science!
The Wegener Halvø license is Greenfields' highest priority copper-lead-cobalt licence in the Jameson Land Basin. This basin is a direct extension of that which hosts the world-class Kupferschiefer and Lubin copper deposits in eastern Europe. Historical rock chip sampling programs within the project yielded high-grade copper (~15% Cu), and cobalt (~0.15% Co) assays. The copper mineralisation is also coincident with significant amounts of lead (e.g. 2% Pb), a quality observed in the German Kupferschiefer deposits.
GAUSS Halvø - 2,433km2
Gauss Halvø was named after Carl Friedrich Gauss, who has been described as the greatest mathematician since antiquity. Amongst his many contributions to science, Carl Gauss contributed to the understanding of probabilities, and has the Bell-curve / normal distribution named after him (Gaussian statistics).
Like Wegener Halvø, Gauss Halvø covers a portion of the Jameson Land basin. The licence includes a known copper occurrence, high-grade precious and base metal veins from which rock chip samples were recovered and grade 551 g/t silver, 1.03 g/t gold, 3.5% copper, 0.124% lead, and 2.48% zinc. The licence is also thought to be prospective for intrusion related tin mineralisation. In the north, there are flood basalts and believe that this is the best location for nickel sulphide deposits.
Hesteskoen - 1,637 km2
In Danish, Hesteskoen means 'horseshoe'. In western culture, an upward facing horseshoe is associated with good luck. Greenfields' Hesteskoen licence approximates the shape of an upward facing horseshoe - bringing a a bit of luck to the namesake Wegener's intellectual and physical adventurism, and Gauss' analytical ways.
The Hesteskoen licence provides a strategic linkage between the Jameson Land and Eleonore Basins. The licence covers a airstrip, and surrounds the historical Blyklippen zinc-lead mine, and a world-class Malmbjerg molybdenum deposit (both excised from the Greenfields license area). The licenses are known to contain zinc, lead, barite and molybdenum anomalies that require evaluation.
Eleonore North - 4,850km2, and Eleonore South - 1,830km2
The Eleonore Bay licenses draw their name from the Eleonore Bay Supergroup which applies to the sediments in this region. The name Eleonore Bay was given by the leader of an exploration expedition over 1869-1870. The namesake woman's identity, like the mineral potential of this area, is enigmatic.
These licences cover represent a belt-scale holding over the Eleonore Basin. The Eleonore Basin is of a similar age to the African Copperbelt, which is significant as the majority of the world's sediment hosted copper is associated with two ages (the Neoproterozoic/Copperbelt, Triassic/Kupferschiefer). The licence is known to contain more than 275 line kilometers of copper staining, from which rockchip grades of up to 6% Cu have been recovered.
Ymer ø - 70km2
Ymer is a god in Norse mythology. From Ymer's body, the gods Odin, Vili and Vé made Earth, and humankind. It is fitting that from something so large (like our project) should spawn many great things. For good measure, in Danish, Ø means 'island'.
The Ymer Ø licence contains high-grade tungsten veins that are associated with an faults, and potentially an unrecognised intrusion. In 2008, the known mineralisation was subject to metallurgical test-work which suggests that it may beneficiate to a saleable concentrate using simple gravity separation. There are a number of intrusions within this licence and the surrounding Eleonore North and South licences that have not been tested for their tungsten potential. The conceptual opportunity at Ymer Ø is to discover a small high-grade deposit that can be rapidly be brought into commercial production
